Look for a Czech escort and you walk into a market that is partly legal, partly tolerated and badly explained almost everywhere. Selling sex between adults is not a crime in the Czech Republic, but organising it for someone else is. That one rule explains most of what a visitor sees: why there are no licensed brothels, why night clubs present themselves as bars, and why many independent women prefer to meet in their own flat.

Four ways the Czech escort scene is organised
Almost every offer you will see falls into one of four formats. They differ in price structure, privacy and risk far more than in what happens behind the door.
Agency escorts
An agency takes the booking, sends a companion to your hotel and keeps a share of the fee. You speak to a dispatcher rather than to the woman, usually in English, and the whole thing can be arranged within the hour. Because profiting from someone else's sex work is a criminal offence, agencies describe themselves as companionship services and keep the paperwork vague. Their photos are the least reliable in the market, so ask whether the pictures are current before you confirm, and whether the quoted rate includes her taxi.
Independent escorts
An independent runs her own diary, sets her own rules and keeps her whole fee. Many receive clients at home, which the trade calls incall, and travel only to hotels they already know. Expect a few questions before a first meeting and a firm line on timing. That care is a good sign: the women who screen their clients are the ones still working the same number a year later.
Privát apartments
A privát (plural priváty) is a flat where one or several women receive visitors by appointment, sometimes with a receptionist who answers the phone. It is a very common format in Czech towns, it is advertised almost entirely in Czech, and it is the closest thing the country has to a walk-in house. Call ahead, give a time, and expect to be met at the door rather than on the street.
Night clubs
A Czech noční klub is a licensed bar with dancers. What happens beyond the bar is where the law turns strict: in 2020 the Supreme Court held that a club renting rooms to women for sex is profiting from prostitution, which is procuring. So a club sells drinks, entry and shows, anything more is agreed between two adults, and nothing obliges you to do more than have a drink. The capital is where the market is densest and where most of its traps are. Is escort legal in the Czech Republic?
Mostly, with conditions. Adults may sell and buy sex, and the Supreme Administrative Court confirmed in 2025 that voluntary prostitution is not a crime under current law. Nobody may arrange it for someone else or live off it, which is the offence of kuplířství (procuring) in the Criminal Code.
